I shot this palmiped where the river ends into the sea, in Liguria, Italy. Who can help me with the name? Many thanks.

In America it's a Double Crested Cormorant... not sure if there is a slightly different version (in name or otherwise) in Italy.

It may be a Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo),

Looks like Great Cormorant to me too.

The large white patch behind the bill is definitive for a Great Cormorant. Neotropics have a small white patch in breeding season, but it's fairly easy to see the difference in the field. Oddly, my life GRCO came on Amelia Island, Florida... Perched on the end of a pier. There was considerable excitement about it, too.
