I'm planning a trip to Colorado either next week, sept 13 - 17, or the week after, sept 27 - 30. My intention is to catch the fall colors. Can anyone tell me whether i should plan to go earlier or later and where my best chances are for catching great color?

Thanks so much.

Kirk:

The Sept. 27-30 time frame would give you a good shot at the falls colors around Aspen (Maroon Bells, Crystal Mill, etc.) and Crested Butte (Kebler Pass). The Sept. 13-17 time frame, which begins today, is a bit early to get any of the classic Colorado Fall colors.

Twin Lakes, between Leadville and Aspen is usually a good early spot - around mid-September.

I would recommend Sept 27 - 30 and go to Ridgway and shoot in that area, you will be there probably around peak time if it holds true again this year.
