I have just found this site and think it is fantastic congrats.
this is a last minute request.I have been to colorado many times and I know it is early but I have'nt any choice in the dates.I am arriving in colorado thursday night, denver maybe dillion ?.I will have friday and sat to take some shots.I must be back to denver sunday for the game, then leaving.that does not leave a lot of time for chance.I love RMNP for elk and some aspen but how about some other locations where the aspens may be decent.I have noticed in your forumns kenosha pass may be a good place by the 17th or 18th.I will arrive on the night of the 16th.
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum! Hope you find the information you are looking for. The best place to get that information would be the Fall Colors Report link above.

Try to get to Kenosha Pass early am. You will find reasonable color even though not peak. Then consider a peak at Boreas Pass. When finished consider heading south to 24 and head over to Independence Pass to Twin Lakes. If you want to continue to explore, go to Aspen and Maroon Bells for early am on 18th.

I live at 8500ft in Woodland Park, and some portions of aspen groves are already changing, about 2½ weeks early for here. Even some of the lower bushes have changed. That said other areas of the state will probably be normal and change on schedule, during the last week of Sept and 1st week to 10 days of October.

I was in Aspen on Wednesday and Thursday. Colors at the Bells aren't bad at all. Probably 30% of the trees are yellow, mostly right below the peaks. There are some outstanding aspen groves filled with yellow leaves alongside the road on the way to the lake. At the lake are some beautiful plants (no idea what they are) that are coated in frost in the morning. You can see a photo of them here.

Heads up to anyone planning to camp at the Bells: porcupines have been chewing up wires and hoses under vehicles at night. They've provided chicken wire to wrap your car in to prevent the little buggers from ruining your trip. Also, the Lost Lake campground near Kebler Pass is closed.

I would like to thank everyone for the input to my question.Jim I took your advice and found kenosha pass on saturday th 18th to be in peak conditions and it made the trip a great success.I did not go anywhere else I just spent the day on the pass aqnd ventured down some side roads on both sides of the pass .I found every thing in the area to be at peak.
every place that I went was beautiful.Again thanks to every one! :jump:
