Hi folks,

I am considering a short trip to Traverse City Oct. 9-13. Having never been there, I'm looking for ideas on where to shoot. The changing trees- birch, beech, maple- are my primary focus (of course), but I also like scenes of small towns, foggy valleys, decrepit old barns or houses, and fishing piers/canoes.

Thanks for any help you can provide! If anyone will be in the area then, I wouldn't mind meeting up for an afternoon.

Leelanau Peninsula is always a good place to shoot in the fall. Take a drive up M-22 from Traverse and around to the west side, then back down again. Leland itself is a great little fishing town, situated between Lake MI and Lake Leelanau. Port Oneida (in Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Park), on M-22 just north of Glen Harbor, has some wonderful old restored heritage farms nestled in rolling hills, which make for a really nice backdrop in fall. You should be able to find every subject you've listed!

On your way up, you might want to even consider cutting over to M-22 just north of Manistee...the road runs parallel to Lake Michigan on the way up to Empire. From there you can take M-72 back east to Traverse City. The photo ops in that area are never ending! Enjoy the trip and colors..the timing should be right on. Wish I was going!
