We made a quick day trip from Menomonie, Wisconsin to Houghton, Michigan yesterday. Unfortunately I was not able to stop for photos. There was patches of color on highway 77 from Hayward, Wisconsin to Clam Lake, Wisconsin. I was a little surprised to see the amount of larch trees turned in the bogs. From Mellon, Wisconsin to Ironwood, Michigan there was some great color with the blend of reds yellow and green. This area usually turns early and it's probably about 40 percent turned. From Ironwood to Houghton via Porcupine Mountains there were patches of nice color. On the return trip we drove down to Bruce Crossing and then to Eagle River. There were some beautiful colors in the bogs along this route.

Thanks for the update, Phil. I'm heading up on the 30th for maybe 2 weeks. I think I will start in the eastern part of the U.P. (Grand Marais area) and work towards the west and the Porcupines. Maybe I will run in to you again. Thanks, Nick

Nick, if you have the flexability, I would suggest starting in the west and working east. The peak colors tend to be a few days earlier to the west.
FYI to all, Ihave been hearing locally that the newly rebuilt Alger County road H-58 should be open between Munising and Grand Marais should be open by the first weekend in October.

Thanks Scott. I appreciate that. Are you still in the Munising area? Can't wait to get back up there. Nick
