I posted a note on this forum many months ago asking for tips about my upcoming trip to Ireland. The trip is almost here (we'll be there mid-week), and it looks like we some kind of loose itinerary.
After flying in to Shannon, we'll be staying two nights in Doolin, with plans to visit the Aran Islands and also the Cliffs of Moher. From there, we'll make a loop around the south-west part of the country, eventually ending up back in Shannon on the 29th.
So...if anyone has any tips you can offer about where and what to shoot in that part of the country, I'd appreciate it!
And someday if you visit my part of the USA, I promise to return the favor!
Loop head Lighthouse....it is below Kilkee - the road is a bit windy out that part of the world but if you are lucky with a sunset you will get some really nice shots down there... it is well worth a visit.
There is some really amazing landscape in and around the Cliffs themselves- try to get there early or late in the day and not at a weekend if you can - avoids the bigger crowds.
Head to the Burren - the landscape there is something that you will not find anywhere else in the world - a great spot for star gazing or trails if you have a tripod and shutter release. There is also the Poulnabrone Dolmen in the middle of the Burren - on the way to Ballyvaughan. There is a wildlife hide in Ballyvaughan and the drive from there back down towards Doolin along the coast road is pretty impressive.. again in the evening time if you can get a nice sunset etc.
If you do make it south of Limerick - where I am - you might head for Killarney - at the moment the rut is on there and the red deer are all about the place with some amazing displays going on - dont know if you are into wildlife as well but said I would mention that here. There is plenty down in Killarney though with regards to landscape - Ladies view, Molls Gap, Glengarrif, Healy Pass, Caha Pass, Castletownbere and much much more - if you get good weather down there you will get a lot of great shots .
The islands off the west coast are also great - as Tom mentioned above, and if you are staying in any of the small towns nearby you will find it easy enough to get out on a boat and do some walk and picture taking there also .
Can't think of anything else at the moment but let me know if you have any other questions. Hope the trip goes well for you

I believe our very informal itinerary has us going through Killarney and Limerick.
I appreciate the advice!
