Over Labor Day I was in northeast Oregon (LaGrande area) where I grew up. Harvest had pretty much ended so the fields were golden. Near to a ranch where I worked as a youngster, I made an image of the foothills at the north end of the Grande Ronde Valley.

Hot Lake is just that. Nearby, however, are marshes and ponds in an area called the Ladd Marsh Wildlife Reserve. I found lots of lily pads with bees there.

Southeast of La Grande (west of Baker City) is an area called Anthony Lakes. This view of Gunsight Mountain is from the short of THE Anthony Lake. The lake is about 71-hundred feet. I spent a lot of time hiking in this area as a lad...once I had a car.

Closer to home: This is Mills Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. I hiked in there Monday and shot the sunset. (Erik, this is the one I told you about.)

Yesterday, Dave Bartlett and I spent the day in RMNP. This shot was looking west over Bear Lake after the sun had set.

I had hoped to post one of those dramatic, testosterone charged, bull elk shots, the kind Bob Karcz got on Monday. I had to settle for this, however. I wish you could have seen the way I stalked and sneaked to get this shot. They even had a cop posted to keep the tourists from posing with the guy.

Nice varied set, Rod! Great symmetry at Mills--and that bull is pretty darn impressive!

Ditto Stan on the variety. Very well done! I like the Mills shot as well as that local scene in Estes. The people really give scale to the size of that bull!

Really love that Mills Lake shot, Rod. The bull elk looks like he just finished a large pizza at Poppys or Village Pizza...

Nice series, Rod. I really like the Mills Lake shot, but I'd like to see more detail in the shadow areas.

Nice stuff Rod! I like the 1st and 5th images best. I was up at RMNP yesterday and they were pretty active in Morrain, but it was hard to find a good position with the light and an acceptable BG. Unfortunately, we didn't see anything around Horseshoe...think the hot weather has kept them from the lower elevations. I would say starting next weekend, things should start to get more intersting and is we get a few cooler days, things should take off.
