The trouble with Black Grouse is that they are so showy its difficult to know what their best angle is. This one is from earlier in the year and is one I keep coming back to. Does the lack of eye contact matter? I'd be very interested in your views.
Cropped slightly from full frame and taken from hide.

I love it! Eye contact isn't everything and the symmetry and flash of red makes up for it.

I am not sure it matters, it is a lovely shot in all other respects, unconventional.

It's brilliant
I like it just as it is.
Well done.

Athena had an iconic poster in the 70's called Tennis Girl - lack of eye contact was immaterial and totally beside the point
This is the 'wildlife' version...

More than a nod in the direction of David Tipling's award winning shot of this species, and no bad thing, in my book. Excellent opportunity really well taken.
Cheers,
Chris

this is an excellent shot Simon. An unusual viewpoint but the symmetry works really well. Andy's comment about the Athena tennis poster made me smile

I just love this very different and comical it looks like he has a couple of pom poms stuck on his head and the detail is lovely especially in the white feathers
Great image executed well Simon and being symmetrical really works. Love the muted tones of the BG juxtapose to the bright vibrant plumage, with great detail, a corker.
