drool.... any word on the cost?

Jack, the 35mm f/1.4 Distagon for Nikon and Canon, will be available in the first quarter of 2011, at a recommended retail price of €1385.71 (excluding VAT).

Generally speaking, prices in the US are less than in Europe, however, I don't know if that holds true for Zeiss.

I think Bill is referring to a Zeiss lens, which is not a tilt shift. Per 1001 Noisy Cameras -
"These are the 50mm f2.8 Super-Angulon PC-TS and the 90mm f4 Makro-Symmar PC-TS. Now it is a good time to sit down if you are interested in these lenses, the prices mentioned are 2800 and 2700 euro respectively".

So sorry for the confusion. Paul is correct.
The site had pictures of the new Schneider lenses with the Zeiss lens price immediately below them.
I should have known the pirce was far too low!

I'd also guess the US list price will be slightly lower than the euro price despite the inverted currency valuation. Perhaps they are excluded from the incremental VAT taxes since they are for export markets. Or perhaps the interim VAT is inconsequential if the cost of raw goods is much less than the cost of the finished product. Either way, we've typically enjoyed much lower prices than Europe or Japan.

If you want to know the US price and availability, you may be able to find out by contacting HP Marketing.

This will be fun. Ritchie, why don't you buy one of the 50mm's and do a comparison for us?

Too bad they don't have a bona fide wide angle offering. Not that I could afford it anyway.
