Not only is that very cool and awesome - it's a great thing to know and be aware of.

Just when I thought I knew it all about Yosemite....

Thanks for posting that Preston.

Preston,
I've seen this, but never really understood what was going on. Very cool indeed. Best Regards.

Neat video and interesting phenomenon too, Preston. Kind of gave me a bit of recall of the big event in Alaska when the Yukon River started to flow every year. There is actually a lottery, or there was back then, as to the exact time when the river would start to break up and move each year. As I recall, they have a certain spot along the Yukon they would post a pole in the ice and set up a trip wire to it and record the exact break of the ice at that point. Closest person to the time they picked earlier in the year would win the lottery.

With all the references to Slurpees and Snow Cones - how about a seasonal treat.. lets call it Frazil Ice available only in April and March. Preston, need a business partner? Great video, very interesting. Thanks.

I could easily see one of us falling right into that quick sand ice. Scary but beautiful at the same time. I would love to see more links like this here in the forum.

I've seen that video, but never the phenomenon in person (even after 4 or 5 winter visits!) I just didn't know to look for it. Will for sure look for it in December when I go next.

There are a lot of videos in that series, all well worth watching.
