Well tonight's "Super Harvest Moon" was supposed to be something really special so I took off up to Petit Jean to get a good view of the eastern sky and Arkansas River. As far as moon rises go, I've seen better and wasn't especially impressed. I'm not sure if it was because of the haze on the horizon, where I happened to be or what, but it wasn't everything I read it was going to be. Oh Well, you take what you get. I had a great time enjoying the cooler air with my oldest daughter climbing on the rocks and the sunset was really nice. Here is a photo of the "Not so Super Harvest Moon" More photos can be found on my Facebook page if you can see it...

Same here Matt. Nothin special, it seemed like it rose too early to get that crazy big red look you sometimes see as it rises from the horizon.

Most of the hype you read online is just that and seldom turns out to be real - take it all with a large grain of salt. The actual full Harvest Moonrise is this evening, the 23rd, not the 22nd. It won't be anything special either - just another full moonrise. Very long lenses and smog can make for really great colorful and large full moonrises, which can happen with any full moonrise. On the other side of the coin, sitting down and watching any full moonrise is a real treat!

Matt.
Well, I like the exposure.
For me, at least, moon shots are tough.
Lots of contrast and I usually either blow out the moon's detail or don't get much background.
This shot show both the moon's detail and background.
So, if nothing else, the practice on this one will get you through the real keeper--besides being with family and being away from the TV..............

I'm with Tim on this one. Just watching the moon rise is fantastic. At this time of year it rises right outside my kitchen window, but I prefer sitting on the deck instead of being in. And I am going out this evening to see if I can get a shot. Last night the rise was nice with the haze in my area, and after turning around the setting sun in the haze was even more beautiful.
