For some reason, I have really wanted to shoot Boulder Falls for almost a year now. I know there are a hundred reasons why a nature photographer would make it a point NOT to stop here, but it's close, it's damn photogenic, and it has been closed for over a year due to rock slides. A couple of years ago when I first started shooting, this was one of the first places I went, so I kind of wanted to try my hand again. Anyway, I had been waiting for a nice overcast day, and today fit the bill, so add this to the list of Boulder Falls shots...

After the falls, I was hoping for another sunset like the ones we've witnessed here in the Denver area the past two days. The clouds were much thicker today, but I noticed a break in the clouds up by Ned. I raced up the canyon road, passed through Ned, and tried to head toward Ward. About 5 miles outside of Ned, I realized I wasn't going to make it and found a small pond on the side of the road. I was able to get this shot before the sun slowly faded out. On the way back through Ned, I got pulled over for thinking the speed limit was 35 when it was 25, so hope the speeding ticket was worth the effort. Be careful and obey the speed limit!!!

Jared did they open the Falls back up? That will be a trip if they did.

The top part above the falls has the usual problems when shooting there. Too bright above to go with the falls area. Looks like some haloing going on, and I feel your pain with that, Jared! Still, if that could be fixed, it would be the best shot I have ever seen from there, I think. Great comp. The second one has great color and nice light.

Morris: The haloing is a little more pronounced in this version for some reason, but point taken and I see that too. Something looks a little unnatural to me with the exposure going from light fg, to darker mid area, to bright sky. The cloud pattern above also had varying degrees of darkness which is part of what we're seeing.
Mark: yep, the falls are re-opened. They have a few new rock walls in place and every five feet there are signs reminding people not to climb off trail, but it's open...for now...

I don't know what even one of those hundred reasons would be, I love the place!
