hey all, this week starting tomorrow I am hosting a photo meetup up in RMNP and have people flying in tonight from all corners. I was wondering if I could get a RMNP condition report, specifically the lower lying areas, Moraine and Endo. How is it looking color wise? And are the Elk all over the place in the Rut yet? Was up last Friday and was pretty disappointed with the Rut action. They didn't seem like they were really down low yet very much at all, nothing like I witnessed last year, yet. Also, is Wild Basin looking pretty good for color?

thanks all!
John

As of yesterday, not much in horseshoe or Aluvial fan area, Moraine still pretty green. Bear Lake close to peak, Alberta Falls path close to peak, higher areas close to or at peak. I saw a total of 3 elk but it was in the AM, around 9-11. Didn't get to Wild Basin.

I was there on Wednesday and agree with what Jack wrote about the conditions. Only the high-country is peaking, with the lower levels mostly still green. According to what a park ranger told my friends and what we saw at upper Beaver Meadow and Moraine Park, the elk rut has so far been pretty much a bust. Yesterday evening, we found one group at upper Beaver Meadow on the far side of the creek and one small group of about six in Moraine Park.
Besides the Bear Lake/Alberta Falls area, near the Heavenly Valley parking area is also looking very nice.

Ok thanks guys, I appreciate it! Apparently from what I was just told, the Elk are all over the dang golf course again this year. Looks like it is the spot to shoot at the moment.

Yes, the elk were all over the golf course on Wednesday. However, unless the elk are actually golfing out there, I'm not interested...
