This is really a follow up on Geoffreys tale from last week, and the mods are free to delete this post if felt inappropriate.

We are now entering the autumn colours season and it is very tempting to go onto the higher hills for the soft light/Autumn colours. Whilst it was a balmy 25 degrees in London yesterday, conditions on the upper peaks are now passing into the "foul" & rapidly changing conditions category - freezing on the Lake District summits with 50 mph+ winds and with wet snow on Ben Nevis/ Eastern Scotland today and equal gale force wind conditions. Now is the season when it is quite easy to get caught out on mountains with the wrong clothing/kit if you don't regularly go "high"

The Met office has a very good mountain weather website, and there are others. Its always worth checking these first before venturing out;

Met office - click on the green "park" shading for the detailed forecasts

I was due to go to the Lake District walking this weekend but have now pulled my trip, the forecast is just downright "bad" on the summit ridges

Hi

Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) is normally quite good too.
