My Turn 3
Ok, here is my attempt at Bear Lake sunrise. I loved the way the sunrise brought out the color in the Aspens and the tops of the pines at lakes edge. It was too windy for reflection but I'll take this anyway! C&C welcome.

Yep. Some nice color on this stand this year. This is one of those few locations that shoot well at both sunrise and sunset. A solid depiction of it here despite the wind.

The colors look great Jack. Very cool to see three different interpretations of this spot. Nice work!

Jack, I really like how you have more of the lake showing than Jim's prior version. I also like that you have orange, yellow and green leaves included in this shot. It frames up nicely. However, I think I'd like to see more of the colorful trees and not have it cropped so tightly.

Thanks Laurie. I agree about the crop..that's one of the disadvantages of less than full frame sensor. I was using my 50d with a 17-85 lens and that was as wide as I could get. :frown:

Great colors. I love that early morning light.

Laurie,
Actually, if you compare the two shots, there is very slightly more of the lake showing in my photo. The real difference is that Jack's version is cropped in more closely, making the lake larger in the picture. Jack's version also makes the mountains much more prominent because of the longer lens and the way it's cropped.
I think all of the photos from this location came out very well, but each for slightly different reasons. Now if we could just take the best parts of each and merge them all together, we would really have something!
Jack, I just noticed what looks like a halo along the mountain ridges. Is this HDR or could it just be from file compression for this forum? Just wondering.

Jim, Not an HDR comp..single shot. The halo could be from a luminance adjustment I did in Lightroom.

Great colors in your shot, Jack! I also like the tighter comp giving the mountain and lake more prominence. What was the lens setting on your shot? Your processing brought everything out very well, too. :toast:

Great shot Jack, well done.

Morris, I was wide at 17mm, manual @f16 don't remember the speed. Also used a 2 stop soft grad, Added some contrast, sharpening and luminance in LR, a touch of dodge to lighten the rocks and that was about it. I was probably about 3 feet from where you were set up. Thanks for the comments everyone.

I know I'm a little late, but great composition, color, and light Jack. You'll have to take me up there next year if the forest isn't completely dead.
