I headed up to RMNP this morning for a while. Saw some nice bull elk in Moraine Park and also near Endovalley. Aspens in both those areas are a still pretty green for the most part. Headed up to higher elevations for some backlit leaves. Still amazed at how much red and orange I'm seeing this year. Must be dry weather in Sept but one of you science type guys can probably explain better.

And the front lit version

And, just for fun, an abstract

I have watched this thread hoping you would get some good critiques. I say this as I see a lot of similarity between our posted image quality - a lot of potential, but not quite getting the "Wow!" response one wants.
What I see in image 1 is the wonderfully orange aspen leaves and a hint of blue. My immediate thought is that the complementary dark blue color is not enough - lust a hint in the LR corner. I wonder if this image would have had more to say artistically if there were one to three leaves in focus with the rest being a dark blue background.
And the last image from Moraine park. It is a very familiar location to most of us here. Tough place to get a new and interesting perspective. Light gets harsh really quick so everyone starts with two strikes against them when shooting here. I see that you shot it at F22 - was this intentionally done to soften the image (diffraction)? Compositionally I like a few FG rocks, but the ones on the side pull my eyes out of the image. And the creek does not work as a strong leading line providing perspective/depth to the image. Finally, the grass is not working for me as it looks drab and muddy. I would ask myself if I would hang it on my wall with other images and, if the answer is no, I would try again.

Hope this helps.
