Manhattan had some really bizarre storm clouds move in Saturday. I happened to be at Pillsbury Crossing with a couple of other photographers as these clouds passed over us. The lightning was incredible (the other 2 guys got some great shots of it, but I didn't). We probably shouldn't have been taking pictures so close to this storm as it was literally right over us. We did finally quite when the clouds right above us started rotating. I've never seen clouds quite like this.

Here was the other end of it where all the lightning was.

And here is the whole thing.

Striking photos, Scott, and very well executed. I've seen a lot of storm-chaser photos, but it takes a photographer to do a scene like this justice. I don't think I'd be brave enough to hang in there under a lightning storm.

Wild, Scott. Well done, especially the first photo and the pano.

Scott -- great shots! The long hose like cloud is called a roll cloud. I marks the front between cold and warm air masses, i.e., the warm air rolls over the cold front.

I was out chasing tornados back in the spring in Oklahoma and saw the same type of cloud. It was dropping tornados north of the shelf cloud along the right side. I had some funnels trying to drop down near the clear area but was more amazed by the size and speed of the cloud. You have some impressive images of s shelf cloud for sure! It's a site to see in person and even harder to capture without shooting it in pano.
Mine was at sunset.

Scott,
Very impressive.
And Mike Hall's shot is also great.
The storms fizzled out by the time they reached Topeka.
And the KSU game was stopped because of lightening--but they prevailed in the last 27 seconds, eh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Cool shots for sure, Scott. I like the first one best. My husband was wanting to watch the game on tv, but this storm delayed it for an hour. They showed a time lapse video of the storm moving in. Cool stuff!

Really impressive Scott! I really like the 1st one the best. It give it such a feeling of wide open spaces and the massiveness of the storm. Bet this will sing when it's printed!
