We took a quick weekend trip up to northern Wisconsin and the U.P. The trees from Superior to Ashland are a couple of weeks away. There had been heavy rains and Lake Superior was brown from the silt in the water. From Ashland to Hurley the trees started to turn more. The Hurley, Ironwood area will be at their peak this week. The Black River was the best I had see with lots of water in the river. The Gile Flowage south of Hurley on 51 had some fantastic color.

Ski Jump on Sunday. If you are ever in the Ironwood area during peak color I would suggest making the trip up the Ski Jump. The views are fantastic and you would help bring back ski flying to the U.P.

Phil:
You were very helpful earlier this month when this Oregonian posted the question about fall color timing for the UP.
What is your opinion about the timing of fall color in and around the Lake of the Clouds and the Porkies now?
I am still flying into Detroit on Oct 5th and heading north on the 6th.

We didn't make it over to the Porkies so I don't really know. The last time we went through the Porkies the south boundary road was about a week behind Ironwood. Typically the interior of the park is later yet. You could give the park a call and see what they have to say.
