Hi all

Yeah, yeah, it's another hare. But I warn you, I've got a hard-drive crammed full of these so you better get used to them!

I shot this in Av priority for a change - I normally just use manual exposure but because of the beautiful dappled light I thought there was less chance of the camera stuffing up! The original shot was a little out so I've done an entry on my blog detailing the RAW to Jpeg adjustments I've made, if anyone's interested. Oh, and I do mention the C-word, so if anyone's easily offended...

A quality shot in beautiful, golden light. :toast:

It's a lovely shot and has been taken and processed well. Eye contact and pose are all good.

But it does amuse me that you dislike the C-word when you are so happy to adjust the white balance, shadow-highlight, use fill light and adjust the luminance and feel that these are all OK. Not saying I would do any different myself but it is interesting that what one person finds Ok is anathema to the next person. A true purist would be measuring the white balance of the scene and using that. And there are some out there who work in just that way.

Hi Simon

A beautifully lit and stunningly crisp image. I always enjoy your hare images and to me there is only one way in which they could be improved and that is if you managed to get a lower POV so that you could create a more intimate and punchy image. Is there any circumstance where you could pour yourself out of the other side of your car and creep around to try and achieve a lower POV or do you have a preference for this type of POV.

It's still a beautifully lit image though

You can't post too many hare images as far as I am concerned. I love the lighting on this one.

Hi Andy

I agree with you 100%. Your preaching to the converted on this one!

Ground level shooting is always my first choice - see my hare posts in June - for all the reasons you highlighted and at all my other hare sites is easily achieved. But at this site...believe me, I've tried and tried at this stubble field but I can't move through the stubble without making a noise and alarming the hare - damn my size nines. I've had limited success but the hare usually has such a wary look that I've rejected them, as I prefer them relaxed. Also, have you ever tried lying on stubble!!

I've even tried shooting with the camera on the passenger seat and the door open but the difference was negligible.

This is why I've been opting for extreme close-ups and shooting with 700mm of lens to try and create some intimacy in the shots - which has its own problems, you can probably imagine how many shots I got in this sequence where the ears are clipped!
