As i just mentioned on ESS, i left as quickly as possible for this four day shoot, since i knew that last Thursday was my only prayer at some snow and clouds--now we are left with dry hot misery
Anyhow, had a fun trip, also spent a day at the Telluride Photo Festival thanks to my bud John Williams giving me the pass he won from OP (thanks, John!) Heres a quick sampler in random order.
First off, Red Mountain Pass.

2) Red moutain was one of the few good spots--Dallas Divide and Kebler have been decimated by SAD and werent nearly peak either--just too darn warm! Here's a very SAD shot (Crested Butte)

3) Thanks to the miserable skies and no color at Dallas, i switched gears and went for different things to shoot--here's a close up of Sneffels

4) Telluride was great, met Tom Mangelson among other photog greats.

5) Some Caudlish weather on Thursday

6) Moonset from Bear Creek Trail, Ouray, Sneffels range at sunrise.

7) One more from Ouray (Portland Creek).
That's all for now, Pt II coming up later this week!

I particularly like the last 2. Nice! Looks like you made the most of not-so-great conditions.
I'm curious what you mean by SAD. Is it the leaf spot that you're referring to? I know there is quite a bit of SAD around there but I sure hope it's not decimated, as in dead.
Still quite a bit of the leaf spot around (obviously) but it seems better than last year from what I've seen so far.

Thanks folks!
Jack, Telluride was fun, they have a great conservation theme going. Attendance was low, but not surprising given its a first time thing. The weather was too nice to sit in a 'classroom' though--so i only went one day.
Chuck-Sudden Aspen Decline has affected about 20% of the aspen in Colorado. Its caused by a combo of agents, in particular two kinds of beetles. The drought in 2002-03 kicked things off, it apparently has peaked now but the affected areas are still dying and once they dfie, theres no regeneration--the roots die. Just another unfortunate consequence of climate change.

Great series, Stan. You should pitch #4 to the Chamber of Commerce.

#2 is my favorite, great collection Stan.

Yeah, I know what it is, many things (drought likely is the major contributor, especially in stands on clayey soils). But the leaf spot mold is hopefully just a temporary large outbreak and hopefully doesn't contribute much to SAD.
I guess my point was that being decimated by SAD is lot different than being decimated by leaf spot and I'm really hoping these places are not decimated by SAD.
I'm going to Kebler this weekend and I'll give you my professional opinion after that!
