Hi
I'm currently rewriting my entire website, it's a momentous task!
I have just uploaded what I've done to date.
www.larrycorbett.com
When viewed on my monitor (which is a 17" flatscreen version) everything looks fine. But remebering back to my previous website which didn't always display correctly when viewed on a 15" screen I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to let me know how the pages look when viewed on smaller screens ie:- laptops and larger monitors ie 19"+
Do the pages sit central?
Is the banner at the top displaying the hyperlinks correctly?
Please note, I still have to write the code for many of the pages and scan in another 600 slides (that's why there are only bird pictures on there at the mo' still scanning them in)so many of the links will be broken.
Good to see you're still around and finding time for some photography.
I know nothing about web design so I'll leave those that do to pass comment on the nitty gritty of it,suffice to say that your opening page opened fine on my screen (19" CRT),the page was centered on the screen and the links worked fine.
Enjoyed the write up on the front page and found the background colour particularly effective and appealing, the images weren't done to shabby either
Please keep us updated and I'll look forward to seeing the finished site.
Larry,
I'm viewing it with a 21" monitor set at 1600x1200.
Your profile page is too wide, i.e there is a horizontal scroll bar. No content is spilling out, but the bar is annoying.
This bar is also on the Images page, but is absent on the others
When I click on a species, i.e red grouse The page comes up fine, but the content is biased to the lhs and again this scroll bar is here too.
If I can be of any more help just shout,
John

Thanks John, I've been trying to work out how to get the pages to work without the horizontal scroll bar i can either switch off all the scroll bars or have them on, alas I can't swich only one off and have been trying to make the pages work in such a way that they are not wide enough so as to need a horiz' scroll bar. I'm writing the site in pure code so alas i don't have the luxury of any fancy web design software..i'll continue to play around with the code
Could you not set up a main table at say 80% of screen width in your main frame?

John,
Think i'm stuck with the horiz scroll bar..which isn't a bad thing I guess.
I was going to use tables but instead opted for margins in my frameset code to position the main text and the hyperlinks together as i wanted my logo and the hyperlinks to appear top left then the pages are biased toward the lh side..as they are alined with the logo
think i'm too far down in to the website to go back and change to tables now..if i did i could get rid of the horiz scroll bar..but it took me a year to get this far!...so i will persevere and leave to framset with the margins and live with the scroll bar...perhaps my next website will be better..tune in in another 10 years for that one..
Larry,
At the end of the day it's your photos that will make or break your site.
I have a feeling that most ppl won't even notice the bar, but you did ask
Hi Larry,
Just looked at your site on my laptop with Firefox browser and all seems to be working well. I am also updating my website at the moment and have opted to use Coppermine to run the gallery.
This is freeware and if I can get it running, anyone can! The advantage is that it runs on your server and you can add/delete photos from the galleries at will without having to recode anything! Might be worth a look?
All the best,
first impressions. i love the images and yes the colours compliment it well.
there are a few things i feel need some attention.
just having a quick look.....the first thing i can think is BUY A PROGRAMME TO DO THIS FOR YOU!!!! although the site looks great, why spend so much time writing code when an editor can cut the time down to a 100th of the time. unless of course you like writing code in which case i admire your mathematical talent! you can still edit code yourself in the editing programmes so can still add your self written fancy bits.
ok there are a couple of things i notice. you have gone to the lengths of disabling the right click function so people cannot save your images, but (on win XP at least) if you hover the mouse over any image, a little toolbar pops up where you have the option to print, save etc etc and this still works on your site. it was quite easy to "steal" your robin image on the index page for example. incidentally i was right clicking to read your code so i could see your operating sytem but can't do that as my right click doesn't work
ok the other thing is. the text on the main.htm page is great, but there are a few spelling mistakes that spoil it slightly:
and animals from a very early (age) and spent.....
the competition was intitalled (titled?) "British.....
the picture that one (won) it for me was....
never miss an opputinty (opportunity).....
i hope that is of some help. i'll look forward to seeing more.
regards,
mark.
