1D mk iv, 600mm f4, 1/2,500s, f4, iso 800. Cloned out a small twig and softened edges of highlights in background.
The saturated colours are due to the first sunshine of the morning as it rose over the hills. The perch is part of a burnt out bush. I shot through some bushes and grass deliberately to create this effect, but I have struggled a bit with composition. What do you think?
I really like this shot, the light and background especially. Even though it might break compositional rules as the bird would be on the edge of the frame looking out I would have a look at it with the oof gorse cropped out. Either way I think it's a really strong image which much make it doubly frustrating that you've had such little feedback!
Ian I wonder if some off the top would help but in saying that I'm not very good with composition Nice image though and lovely BG.

To be honest Ian, I think there is an awful lot to like in this shot especially as Andrew says the background and the light, but for me the bird is looking the wrong way and it upsets the composition too much. I'd consider it a nearly shot if it were mine and be on the lookout for another better opportunity. Just my opinion of course. eric
