I haven't posted on here for a long while because I have been pretty disappointed with my efforts lately. One of the downsides of hanging out with photographers who are better than I am I suppose. Phil H's heron has spurred me on though because I have a soft spot for dark images with the subject well illuminated. The light was extremely harsh by the time I found this guy sitting in the sun, so the antler shadow irritates the hell out of me, but other than that I feel it will do. Settings were left over from what I had just been trying to do and in retrospect I could have reduced iso and speed considerably but when you get old and doddery a bit of extra speed never hurts does it? I've cloned a small piece of twig out that was going straight up his nose btw.(sorry Oscar )

C&C very welcome as always.

Hi Eric, spot on with this one, you really are pulling them out of the bag.

Works really well, with nice detail and colour, good to be ahead of the game, although I am sure this one will not have got lost.

Eric, not sure why you are disappointed with your recent efforts if this is anything to go by.

I know what you mean, I worried about posting here with the standard, but you gotta learn eh!?

As for this it is the epitamy of an autumnal shot. Big oak, warm tones and a wonderful male fallow!

I think this is lovely Eric love the way it is part in shade and then the deer is lit and the shadow of the leaves are on the trunk, very nice

Hi Eric,

Lovely image in a natural setting and as already said nice detail where it matters. :toast: :toast:

I too am a lover of dark and moody images.

I wouldn't be dissappointed with an image as good as this

Lovely setting though on my screen the whites looked like they might have been stretched a little. I often find that in harsher light exposing for the highlights and letting whatever else happens happen can pay dividends in creating mood. The shadow, to me at least, adds and doesn't detract.

Hello Eric.

Thats a beautiful image and the lighting and composition are really nice.

Well spotted and taken.

The only thing I would do is to clone yes clone out the bright stick at the bottom middle of the image. I find it just pulls the once you've noticed it.
