Roaring in the mist
After 6 days of trying this is my reward. Can't tell you how happy I am. Of course the image could be better but after 6 days without any deer I'm happy with anything.

iso 200 1/60 sec. f/5.6 full frame

To be honest Edwin I am not too sure, the way the mist cuts off all but the tops of the trees is odd (IMO).

I have seen mist do this many times, so I do not find the tree tops odd. This is a lovely shot, but the roaring stag is lost a little in the frame. I think that losing some of the top of the image would give a little emphasis to the animal.

mist does some strange things - it's not unusual to see this effect, especially if there is a hollow behind the stag - this is a cracking shot, very moody, love it and sure it looks fabulous in fine art print form.

Stag for me works ok small in the frame

nice one

cheers

Oh yes I love this image, full of atmosphere.

It makes you want to be "out there" :toast:

Bags of atmosphere. I think the image probably loses a lot as a web jpeg - I bet it's awesome large :toast:

Potentially a cracking image and it seems to me a really magical location that you've got over there. All this image lacks is in the processing and I'm sure there are loads of enlightened bods on this forum who can help. Bit lighter and more contrast and bingo - a stunner!

Love the mood here, agree it might need some processing here and there. This will make a lovely big print I think! :wavey:

Maybe I was misunderstood. I am sure mist does this many times but as the viewer I do not know the conditions, only the shot I am looking at. That i only see the tops of trees with no other indication of their being whole, it has an odd effect.

Superb shot, I really like this type of image and everything has come together here. The mist, the roaring stag and atmospheric conditions all make for a top shot :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:

I too really like this style of Wildlife Photography. The target species doesn't always have to dominate the image. As said above lots of atmosphere, and an ethereal feel to this. Well done Edwin, yet again patience has paid off!! :toast:
