Squirrel in snow
Taken from the hide out in my yard.

Some people see these as vermin but I reckon they're beautiful creatures, ok, they damage my feeders etc and on one occasion even stole a full peanut feeder, I found it under some trees by following a trail of peanuts, needless to say it had been totally emptied but that's a small price to pay.

I was taking some shots of birds in the snow when suddenly, this Grey Squirrel appeared from nowhere and started to eat the bird food.

I was only about 8 or 9 feet away with my lens poking through some camo netting, it knew I was there and it looked at me a few times as I took a few photos.
I got 11 single shots before it decided to leave.

I like the snow on it's tail in this photo

I hope to get some in Canada later this year, just glad they have not arrived here in Bavaria yet...the reds rule. But yes, a welcome change from blue tits ;)

Vermin they may be, but you can't help but be amused by their antics. Excellent.

The thing that make this for me is the snow encrusted tail...a little different I suppose. So what if its a grey squirrel, Ive been seeing 'red' for too long!

Hi Geoffrey

I like it he really does look cold - minor nit a little tight in the frame for me.

Hi Geoffrey

I really like this - how can you not empathise with a creature that looks so cold and so forlorn irrespective of a misguided public opinion. A very expressive image - is he a youngster?

Thanks everyone for the comments
I don't know Andy, I know we have a male and a female visiting the feeders but not sure what this is.
Not long after I took this there was one dead on the road only about 20 yds away, so I don't know if this one is still here or not.

Hello Geoff.

Very nice capture and the setting with all the snow as really helped.

I love gery squirrels and I havent got any good images of them, but it is a project I will be doing in the winter.
