Now, here's a funny thing.
I'm sat at my desk here reading an old (jan 06) Shooting Times and you'd never guess what's on the cover...................stone me, an almost identical shot

Spooky

A seriously good image, although the one on the cover had cropped in a good bit tighter and I think it looks the better for it.

Hi David,

Particularly like the way the birds appear to me flying towards you rather than the more usual parallel to the camera viewpoint.
A beautiful light and airy feel to it too.

:toast: :toast:

Think I shall now bin my shot's from the same spot as they fail miserably by comparison

First time i have seen a flock of widgeon and although i like the crop i dont like the cut off birds on the left,It ruins the comp so doesnt work for me :frown:

Just had a play with your image and have realised that it is the same as the cover shot I mentioned earlier.
It stuck in my mind when I first saw it, unfortunately there was no tog's credit with it

Hi John

Thanks for that - I never did see a copy but a friend said it looked OK which is quite amazing when, after cropping, they were probably working with an 8mb file size before interpolation.

Hi David,

Nice image and you have captured the action well.

I think crop and flip has given the image a better composition.

Regards

Can see how this would work for the cover :toast:

I remember this Dave, and I still love it. Colour, action and direction - it all comes together. :toast: :toast:

Like it a lot. Very nice colour balance. Perhaps a slightly tighter crop all round for me. Cheers Graeme

Hello David,

(Re: Shooting Times I can't see how anyone could point a double-barrelled at one of these beautiful ducks but then that's just me and I'm certainly not judging.)

It's an unusual shot and I think Justin has summed up the image well.

Trying to work with as much of your original image as possible, I feel the composition would be improved by cropping out the head of the duck at the top left which would then give a sense of space at that side which I feel the image needs.

Cheers,

Kevan
