Meadow Pipit
I managed to get quite close to this lovely much maligned little bird. Taken on my trip the other week to Ardnamurchan

Canon 7D Canon 300mm f2.8 lens, f2.8. 1/500sec ISO 400

Ron,
In light of the recent 'cropping' discussion it wouldn't be a bad idea to state the fact that this is a very substantial crop to avoid any misunderstandings  .
This view certainly shows up the plumage colours and patterning very well but IMHO the crop is just too severe and has taken it's toll on the image quality.

I wouldn't say whether it is cropped or not, that is irrelevant it is still a superb image that shows great sharpness, resolution, colour balance and a fantastic background, let us just enjoy it for what it is a really nice photograph, well done :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Its a picture of a meadow pipits head. I was taken with a 300mm lens as close as it could be to me. The bird was about 7ft away, I had to lean back because the lens wouldn't focus. I couldn't fit the bird in full frame.

Its not as big a crop as Justin seams to suggests

The crop is about 40%, I don't think its a substantial crop

but I fail to see what that matters, its sharp the colour are good.

I think its a good picture. and I am pleased to have it in my collection
