I had posted this in the Avian Gallery and thought I would post a copy here for the uniqueness of the shot. This Heron shot from last weeks images, shows a caught and mostly consumed garter snake in dire straits. This snake put up a considerable fight and with most of his body already down the Heron's throat, his head pop's out of the right side and over the top of the Heron's beak. Now, "Eye to Eye" with his captor and knowing the outcome, you have to wonder what is going through each ones brain.
This "Lunch Portrait" is a 50% crop from the original vertical and is one of several I was able to get last week at the Ridgefield NWR, WA
I would have preferred a tad more canvas around the heron but had I exited my car to move back or started it to backup I'm sure I would have lost the shot.
