Mallard + answer
Light is everything in photography (well nearly) and on this occasion the last rays of a setting autumn sun really showed the glorious plumage of this so overlooked bird.
500mm
1/250 @ f8
iso 200
cropped a little bit to decentralise the subject.

Incidentally, I'll put £5 into the Tenovus cancer charity if anyone can guess by tomorrow night what the orange reflections are!

ANSWER
I enjoyed the thought of Dave Bartletts 'torched mondeo' so I'll put the fiver in anyway but the answer to the orange reflections is actually - Flamingoes! This mallard had taken up residence in the flamingo pond at the Wildfowl and Wetland Centre in llanelli.

They are certainly overlooked Robert, their Plumage is lovely. I would have preferred a lower POV here, but it's not always possible. Lovely lighting.

very nice shot, lovely light, i'm going to guess the reflections are from a boat??

Congrats on your WPOTY success Jack but no prizes for a boat I'm afraid.

Nice light indeed. If you had taken this where I live the orange glow would be from the dying embers of a torched Mondeo ....

Really nice image. My guess would be brickwork from a building for the orange on the water. Took one with a similar effect at Rufford mill a couple of years ago

Hello Robert.

Lovely Mallard shot with some nice light making the colours in this stand out really well.
