More North Lake
I missed the meetup...I was hit with a world class migraine triggered by the altitude and just had to sleep.

Here are two from North Lake. I always have trouble getting a good composition there. I get dazzled by the colors and forget that a composition is important. I especially liked Chris Chamberlain's shot. Do you mind sharing where it was shot from? Also, I'd love some details of the gas pump riot at the Mobil Station.

This one was taken Sunday, shortly after sunrise, from the outlet.

This was taken from up on the hill just to the left of the parking lot. I cloned out a tree that was poking up into the lake. Taken about an hour after sunrise, again on Sunday.

To see the rest of my photos from the weekend:

Nice take on North Lake. Nice color and skies.

I was planning to hit the lake later last week, but with all the rains, I left on Monday morning.

Checked out your new series on smug mug. Very nice. The two image you posted here are more unique views than the crowds by the lake got on Sunday. Missed the dawn light, but it was just as good or better where I was in the Buttermilks. It truly was an epic weekend, sorry to hear about your migraine. That sucked I'm sure.

That is some pretty crazy light. I would have gone for a little bit of polarizer on the river water on the first photo.

Of the two postings, I prefer the second. Thanks for sharing, Tony.

Thanks for that second pic as it gives me a good idea why some have been impressed this fall with color at North Lake. The top areas indeed appear to have the best red at least since about a decade ago. And no areas of leaves blown off trees that is often the case. It may be that our cool summer was more productively pleasant for that high likely clone grove that I suspect in many years tends to dessicate because it is south sun facing, open to winds, and not watered by anything but occasionaly thunderstorms after early July. Subjects like the top image that are impressive through our eye and many on this board often post, are simply too difficult high contrast subjects. They rarely work because either highlights are blown or the rest is too dim to dig out but serve purpose as here in recording fine moments informationally.

You may have missed the meet up, but you didn't miss the light or color. I like the first image for overall composition, but the second shows the layout and variation nicely. Glad to hear you were able to get up there eventually.

As for the gas pump riot, it looked like from my limited observation and talking to a worker afterward that one gentlemen didn't take to having another tell him to hurry up and move after he finished pumping his gas. What ensued involved a squeegee and gas pump fuel flying about. Almost as exciting as the weekends weather and color.

some really fine images of NL tony. I don't necessarily agree w/ removing that tree but it sure does open up the scene!
