A very spur of the moment trip found me speeding through the backroads of Southern Colorado to Alamosa at nearly midnight on Friday as a setup to a Saturday morning visit to the sand dunes. I didn't get there as early as I intended since the motel alarm clock failed on me, but I think I got some decent shots in nonetheless. This is one of my favorites. The rest are here: http://highdesertarts.com/PhotoEssays/3-25-06. Enjoy!

Hi Rebecca,
Nice work, thanks for posting.. I especially liked the more abstract close-ups, and also the shot of the Crestones (I assume?) in your rearview mirror!
Paul
Thanks, Paul. Are the Crestones part of the Sangre de Cristos? I like the side mirror shot too, even if it is well on its way to becoming a photo cliche. I've seen variations on the side mirror shot in no fewer than four shows just around Denver. But when I realized I could line the road up so precisely for the mountain/scrub plain illusion, I couldn't pass up my own version.

Hi Rebecca,
Yes I am pretty sure the Crestones are part of the Sangre De Cristos, and you did a GREAT job with your version of that shot!
