Update 10/15:

I spoke with someone at the Trout Lake/Jefferson Station yesterday and the fall color is just not doing much up there. Because of the grim color outlook, I am proposing we cancel this event. Sorry folks. Hopefully fall color will be better next year.

Hello folks,

We're looking at either Saturday the 16th or the 23rd for the PNWNP Fall Color outing. We've chosen the Trout Lake area as the best locale for the trip. Thanks to John Williams for proposing this route/itinerary: Fall Color around Trout Lake. Thank you, John.

So far this year, the colors have been less than spectacular--to say the least. The Gorge yesterday was various shades of green, dull yellow, and brown. The timing of peak color is also uncertain due to the climate conditions this fall. So, we're trying to keep the next two Saturday's open and hope to check conditions as we get closer. Does anyone know how we can get an update on conditions at Trout Lake?

We're a bit unclear of what the participation will be, so if you are planning, or want to go, please reply to this thread with your preferred date. This is especially important so we can gauge the interest in spending the day out there, particularly with less than sensational conditions...

Thanks everyone,
David & Erik

Hi David,
I can't commit, both because of the less than promising color season and some things that got rained out this last weekend and will have to be done next weekend. So, I think I'll commit to a "no" this time.

I have a prior commitment for the 16th, but could attend on the 23rd.

One additional comment. I was hiking around Mt. Hood on Saturday, and was amazed at how much of the deciduous vegetation had yet to start to change. There were some good patches, here's an ESS example, but they were uncommon. I realize Trout Lake may be different, but I'm suspicious the color will continue to run late without a lot of cold.
