Apple Aperture repeatedly hangs.

Got a new iMac with Aperture installed and imported most of my photo onto the Mac. However, I find that Aperture is rather unstable and repeatedly hangs and had to be 'forced quit' especially when cropping large images. Of course I sent the report to Apple but don't expect to hear from them. Does anyone else using Aperture have this issue?

Sorry, Gary, but I have not come across this problem, though I did find importing images from Aperture 2 into 3 to present a number of difficulties. If you have not already done so, I suggest going to the Aperture community discussions on the Apple site ( Support ) - someone will have your problem for sure. Just remember to select discussions relating specifically to your computer model and system, rather than trawl through all comments; then try ` Aperture hanging ' in the search field and take it from there ( some queries may not be answered but you usually find many that are ).

Hope this helps - I have solved many a problem with my Mac in this way

PS I'm assuming you are familiar with the routine starting points for problem solving ( repairing permissions and, in this case, chucking out the Aperture preference file ) - but they rarely help anyway.

Have had similar problems when I move too quickly for Aperture 2. It does not forgive impatience. When I am more deliberate I do not have problems.

Recently researched compared A3 to LR3 and found several complaints about speed of Aperture3.

Gary, I had the same problem until I added more memory. My I-Mac only had 1GB ram which is barely enough to run the program. I added 3GB more and it runs smoothly now.

Went to apple support discussion and it looks like a common problem. There are some very irate users and what is really amazing to me it there is not a single word from apple about this issue. This is really a wake up call for me to stop using Aperture3 as I am only starting to build the database and still have my old files in my windows computer. Aperture 3 is quite unstable at the moment and from the forum it seem to hang for a variety of reasons. Using Viveza2 plugging often cause it to hang.

Gary -

Have you tried simply turning off Faces? I haven't had a single problem with Aperture 3 (converted from Aperture 2, converted from Aperture 1) with Faces turned off. And I pound the program: 55,000 images, hundreds of keywords, hundreds of projects. It's been absolutely rock-solid for me. Seriously.
