If you could get both of these printers for the same price, is there any reason NOT to opt for the 7900?

I don't see that the 7890 give you anything that the 7900 does not. The 7900 is the superior printer between the two.

The 7900 does even better with B&W prints than the 7890 does.

Good to know, guys. Epson is offering a $1000 rebate right now on the 7900 which makes it the same price as the 7890. Hmmm...

Bret
the only draw back would be higher ink costs for the 7900 ( 11 inks vs 8 for the 7890). That said the Ultrachrome HDR inks of the 7900 are state of the art, and I am about to order a 7900 for myself

Thanks for the feedback, Steve. I looked into the ink and it's definitely not cheap, especially if you opt for the largest cartridge but "bang for the buck" is best that way. Hmm...

The bang for the buck on the 700mL carts is only there if you'll go through that amount of ink in a reasonable timeframe, like a year. On my 3800 with its 80mL carts, I've only replaced about 50% of the first set of ink carts and that is considering the loss from filling the lines the first time. I've had the printer for 22 months and printed lots of prints on the thing. I'll be ordering the other "half" of the inkset later this year. The one ink I'll probably have to order again this winter is the light, light black. The Yellow, Magenta and Cyan are still on their first set and the photo black is just about to go.
