Week of Colorado Blues
After two days in the Tetons, I spent the last week of September in southwest Colorado catching the changing aspen. Unfortunately, the relentless blue overcast obscured the clouds that week.

I began in the Kebler Pass area where I met Jeremy Cram from Portland. I enjoyed photographing with him for a few days at Kebler, Silverjack and Sneffels.

Any C&C is welcome on this series of images.

After Kebler, Jeremy and I headed to Silverjack for more blue skies. This reflection shot was along the road. We stood on our camper shells to get above the roadside willows. This was taken at noontime, so not the best of lighting conditions.

From Silverjack it was on to the Sneffels range outside of Ridgway. While the weatherman forecast clouds and chance of precipitation starting Thursday, he lied.
Beaver pond reflection near the end of CR7.

Off CR5 the aspens seemed to have more color and be more at peak. At this location, I met Joshua Hardin and John Mumaw. It was a pleasurable afternoon and evening.

Spent a night on the South Mineral Creek Road near Silverton. Another cloudless beaver pond.

Busted through the willows to the other side of the creek above Ophir to get the colorful streaking mountain ridge and the aspens.

Excellent series in my opnion Doug! Just love the comp on #3..they way the diagonal reflection shows coming upwards instead of downwards....incredible. Also love the comp in #4 with the fence, but the entire series is a hit for me.

#4 really looks nice. Overall nice series...great conditions it seems were on CR5 that day.

Try having a conversation with a non-photographer about *&^%$! blue skies! The look they give you is priceless. Your series is excellent, and diverse. I'm sure there are plenty of blue sky people that would like to hang these on their walls.

Real fine series, Doug.
#'s 2, 3 & 4 are the winners for me. Not quite sure about that large claw-like shadow in #5.
For some reason, the clear blue skies of #'s 3 & 4 complement those images rather detract.
Wish I'd come away with half of what you captured on these days. Ah well, it was a pleasure meeting both you and Joshua on that day!

A very nice set of shots. I also like #3 and #4 the best.

Love 2 and 4, Doug!! Hey, ive been saying for weeks this is what we'd get--thats why i headed for the Tetons this weekend and was richly rewarded!

EDIT: to clarify--since John apparently didnt see it, im responding to your comment that the 'weatherman lied'. I wasnt that particular weatherman, im just pointing out that i didnt lie--ive been saying all month we were in a very dry pattern with no rain/clouds. Fortunately, theres some hope for next week!
Oh, the Jack mistake was becuase i was just looking at Jack G's post and forgot that i was on a new one--too many posts--too little sleep! Sorry bout that...

Stan,
Hopefully you had some fresh snow, great sunrises and clouds, and the smoke was gone. The morning before Schwabacher, I had a litttle fog and clouds for the moonset at Oxbow.

My favorite is #4. Great colors everywhere. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great set Doug; I like #3 as well. Thanks for sharing!

It was great meeting you Doug. That fence on CR5 with the view of the Sneffels Range was fun to shoot, clouds or not! The moonset image of Schwabacher is really, really nice too!

That moonset shot ROCKS, Doug!

Way to overcome the conditions Doug. The moon shot is mesmerizing, albeit with a few halos ... and possibly tilted a bit?
Posted by Doug Koepsel on October 13, 2010 at 6:32 PM
Jesse, I too noticed the halo right above the treeline and will try to get rid of it again when I reprocess again. thanks.

Great color, too bad about the lack of clouds.
