Putting the "yellow" in Yellowstone
Never done a series before so here goes. Took these fall colored cottonwoods in the Lamar Valley the weekend before last. Plenty of fires causing smokey conditions in the area which is really pronounced in the first image. Thanks for taking a looksy.

Wow, these are some kind of awesome. The first one is over the top with those rays shooting through the sky. Good grab! I really like the point/counterpoint in the second one, with the cottonwoods being lit by the blazing setting (or is it rising?) sun, and those aspens, cool and aloof, back there in the shadows. All of these are reminders of why I look so forward to your posts.

Thanks much Todd. Forgot to mention that all of these were taken with my Canon 17-40mm, except the second one which was taken with my Canon 70-200mm L, a marvelous lens BTW. Canon 5d 2.

#1 and #2 are my favorites, great composition and the processing is just right-on.

Wow, really like the first one.

I really like the crepuscular rays and comp in the first one but I think #2 is a winner. #2 I like because of the contrast between the lit tree and it's surroundings with the light on the ground. I agree with you that the 70-200mm lenses are fantastic. Until I tried the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II, mine produced the clearest images I've taken to date. Now there's a tie.

#2 has the sweet backdrop for the golden, sunlit trees. Nice series.

Home run on that first one, Dean. Excellent series, as usual.

#1 has such sweep and drama with the rays and sunstar. The softer glow in #2 is just gergeous. That pair are absolutely keepers!

#1 is a blow-your-shorts-off image. Wonderful, all of them.

I'm another one for #1 and #2 as they are just a touch more impressive. Excellent set all, but those two scream excellence!

Preference to #2 as I like how the sunlit cottonwoods stand out against the hazy shadowed backgound and offsetting asens. The curves in the upper cottonwood trunks add a flair.

Both 1 and 2 are top-notch compositions. Nice work!

Great set, Dean--my fav is #2! :wavey:

Awesome series, Dean - I especially like #1 - those rays are awesome! Some of the blown clouds on #3 and 4, especially 3, I find distracting.

All great, Dean, but I want #1 on my wall!

I really like that light and color in #1.
