NANPA is now accepting applications for scholarships to attend the 2011 Nature Photography Summit.

Each year, the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA) provides up to twelve scholarships to qualified college students to attend the Nature Photography Summit. This is a tremendous opportunity for students interested in photography to learn more about nature and conservation photography, and to meet and network with many of the top editors and stock agencies in the business. The scholarship is fully funded by NANPA, whose mission is to “promote the art and science of nature photography as a medium of communication, nature appreciation, and environmental protection."

I believe the scholarships are for HIGH SCHOOL students, not college students.

In my post (and in personal emails to people I know who are NANPA members) I asked for people, if they were interested, to consider nominating Joe Sulik for this scholarship. Joe is an outstanding 14 yr old photographer from Minnesota who has been posting excellent images on NPN. I got the needed permission from Joe's dad, since there is a lot of personal info required on the nomination form.

A number of NPN'ers responded, and Joe is now in the running for one of the scholarships.

The nomination deadline is October 17.

Thanks Sandy. There are actually two scholarship programs. The high school scholarship program (which is the one Joe would be eligible for) and a college scholarship program.

The college scholarship program application deadline is 8 November, so there is still time to put together a portfolio and apply for those that might be interested.

We had an amazing group of photographers at last year's Summit, and several of the scholarship recipients described their experience as a "life changing event."

I'd be more than happy to answer any questions people might have about the college scholarship.
