Well, it's been a long time since I've posted anything here - in fact, it's been quite a while since I've taken anything that should be posted here! Expanding my horizons, I've done a lot of portraits and fashion (yeah, I know how unlikely that sounds) this year and have spent a lot of money and time on off-camera flash (not as evil as I once thought?). More of a Zack Arias and Joe McNally year. I even have a workshop with Keith Carter next month - should be interesting!

Anyway, I did manage to get away for a while earlier in the month to do some stuff that might be appreciated here. These were taken with a 5DII and a variety of lenses. Even after shooting with it for 19 months, I'm still surprised by the latitude the 5DII RAW file provides.

Thanks for looking,

Great shots Tim. I especially like the empty silo shot.
Glad to see you back.

Great work, Tim, it looks like you had a very productive trip. My favorites are at Dead Horse Canyon.

Great stuff Tim. You always end up with some amazing black and white images. I wonder if you've ever considered converting one of your old cameras to infrared, since you do so many black and whites. I hope to make another trip with the group soon. I believe New Orleans is next.

I'm also in agreement with you about the 5D II. I believe it's still on top unless you go to the D3X (which even then it's very close) or medium format digital. If I was in the portrait taking business, a fast AF like the D700/D3S would be ideal. If I wasn't doing so much video with the 5D, I'd rip that AA filter (blurring filter) off for a hot mirror filter, for some crazy sharp photos. May still do it...

Thanks, guys.

Aaron - New Orleans is off the calendar due to lack of interest. But Belize is next year and sure to be a big hit. I'll be in NOLA for Keith Carter, though. And I'd like to go the infrared route someday.
