Barn Owl

Canon 1D MKII, 600mm f4 non IS, f4, 1/60, ISO 1250, G1548, Wimberley head, RAW, RSE, CS2

Hi All,

Another of my local Barn Owl. The light was just about gone and I was going to call it a day when he appeared over the hedge and flew straight at me. He flew within about four feet of me and hovered, it was amazing that there was no sound at all. It was way to close to get a picture, it was one of those moments where you forget about photography and just enjoy the amazing experience that you are witnessing.

All I need now is some lovely evening sunlight for him to fly around in and I'll be a happy man

Regards

Rob

Hi Rob

I think it is a beautiful image that has a feel of 'dusk' about it - also like the wing movement. Great image!

Looks pretty fine as it is Rob. Loose the foreground stems and give him a vole and it will be perfect.

Simply Brilliant Rob, this is a cracking image many would want to have in their collection, well taken :toast: Perservieence & respect for this amazing Owl is the key factor in getting a shot like this.

What is great about the Barn Owl population at the moment is its doing really well showing a large increase in numbers, this being throughout the UK. It's a great feeling to see many people including the photographer benefiting from its stability.

Hats off to landowners/gamekeepers/conservationists etc.. :toast: & most important, the Voles

It's all been said. Lovely shot Rob. I like the fg grasses as they lend some depth.

Excellent. Wish we had BO round here in Wakefield. Red letter day if one is seen, yet in Norfolk, for example, they seem to be almost dirt birds in places

Rob,
A lovely image. The cool light gives the sense of dusk and the blur of the wings a sense of movement. A very atmospheric shot, well done.

Gorgeous shot, much to be prefered to your sunlight dream shot, imo! I just love it.
