Howdy,
I'm looking for good places within a driving distance of portland to shoot some great fall color. Does anybody have any must-see spots I should hit up?
Thanks,
Erik

I went over to the Sisters area this last weekend and the colors were really exploding with the red vine maples and maples. I would say the whole highway from Salem to Suttle lake on highway 22/20 is worth taking a look.

I agree with Erik - the Santiam Pass area is perfect right now for fall colors. (I posted a few photos to the forum the other day of Aspen's and Vine Maples around Hoodoo Ski Area down to Black Butte Ranch)

Santiam Pass can be a long drive from Portland unless you live on the SE end anyway. Silver Falls would be good and even 35 between Hood River and Government camp was pretty nice last weekend.

It's looking like this might not be a great year for fall color, but here's some suggestions in addition to what's already been mentioned:
- Columbia River Gorge from Guy Talbot Park to Hood River
- upper Hood River Valley around Toll Bridge Campground and along Hwy 35 heading south
- Trout Lake area north of the Gorge in Washington
- East Fork Lewis River waterfalls (start at Battle Ground Lake State Park)
- vineyards in the Willamette Valley
- Forest Park and Washington Park in Portland

Columbia River Gorge was looking pretty good on Wednesday.
