As a UKNP member I have been so fortunate to be able to visit many locations in the USA.
2011 will provide yet another top location on our must do list, Alaska.
Local knowledge is an invaluable factor which we just do not have thus I would like to ask if any AKNP members would be kind enough to provide some pointers for us to aid our planning for our visit.
*Our date range will be June - July 2011.
*We will be seeking Bald Eagle activity flight shots coupled with all avian subjects.
*Bear activity and infact any other animals located in the state.
*Landscapes just where would we start. This forum is just out of this world hence my dilema.
Probably easier to state, state wide subjects so far we are considering Fairbanks, Codfoot, Prudhoe Bay, Denali NP, Anchorage, Skegway, Glacier Bay.
Any imput would be greatfully received and if I can return the compliment please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you for your time.

Barry -
Your destinations are good except Prudhoe Bay. There are canned tours which will get you to the Arctic Ocean from Prudhoe, but they are pretty strictly controlled. Prudhoe itself is surpassingly homely. And be aware the south of Coldfoot, the Dalton Highway is heavily hunted, fairly mundane boreal forest.
Consider adding to your destinations Kenai Fjords National Park out of Seward. The 11.5 hour cruise out of Seward is excellent.
For bears, you need to consider adding Katmai National Park, or one of the smaller bear viewing sites. Or, if you are feeling luck, enter the lottery for McNeil River. If you have the finances, also consider a trip to the Pribilof Islands, which offer many of your requirements in one handy, if expensive, place.
If you travel through Fairbanks, look me up.

Many thanks for the info it's just what I needed. It's so easy to get overwhelmed with information then you lose focus.

Chugach State Park, right next to Anchorage has great landscape opportunities and in early June, easy Dall Sheep images. I agree with Jim, skip Prudoe, though Gates of the Arctic is beautiful. The opportunities are endless, You should narrow your subject matter even more, then we can help you more. Also do you want to hike? backpack? kayak? do have funds for Bush flights? Carl
Guys,
I read Barry's post and wanted to ask a question also. We are planning a motorcyle trip during that time as well and of course by brother, dad and I will be bringing our photo gear! Is mid July as good time for a motorcycle trip or is another month better? We are flying into Anchorage and riding from there to where ever the road leads.....ha!
Thanks!

HI Dottie,
I think mid July is as good of time as any, I don't think you could go wrong then. I love the fall, but we get a lot more rain that time of year, and that wouldn't be any fun on bikes. Have a great trip!
