I shot this last saturday as the storm was coming in from the south west. I had been wanting to get a fall color shot of the aspens along Convict Creek and Mt. Morrison for awhile now. I finally figured out where I wanted to do it this season. The scattered clouds made for some spectacular lighting on the mountains as the sun came and went with the passing clouds. What I hadn't quite figured on was being able to get both mountains in the same image.
I'm sure some would rather see this with sunrise color, which has it's place. But more and more I am really liking early am or late evening sunlight on the aspens as it really pops the colors.
Very strong winds forecasted for the owens valley tomorrow so today may be the last good day for fall color w/ leaves on the trees; in the lower canyons. Color is looking good down here in bishop, I hope all the leaves aren't ripped off the trees tomorrow!
Great little scene, Cory! Great colors and super sky.

All 3 elements work great together here Cory. Just for fun's sake, I'm guessing this portion of hot creek is probably blocked by a hill on the northern side of 395. I'm glad you found yourself a new view.

Good work Cory. I think the light is very nice and your comp is well executed.

I bet the north face of Morrison looks like the Eigerwand--ice hoses and steep iced up rock. Yikes!
