Lake Irwin Fox...not mine
I am trying to get a friend of mine to join the forum. He has some great images and I thought if I showed one for critique, maybe we could push him off the fence. I have his permission to post this and hope it's ok with the forum. The full size image is pretty awesome. He took this a couple days ago at Lake Irwin. C&C welcome.

This is an excellent portrait! Love how the fox is looking right at the viewer.

I have a couple of suggestions if you can spare the pixels.
I think that cropping out the black object on the right would remove a distraction, as there's hardly any detail there. Looks more like a black border right now. Then cropping in from the left to make this a vertical might be a good idea. If that's not feasible, then burning down the bright areas of snow in the upper center would reduce the distracting brightness.
Hope your friend considers joining. He's got the chops, and we don't have enough wildlife photographers here (never enough, IMO  ).

I love the intense stare. A great portrait.

I played with screen cropping it into a vertical and eliminating the black area on the right.
John's suggestion works for me.

This SUCKS! Tell your friend to move along, nothing to see here.

(translation: Wow, this is a very sweet shot! Tell your friend to come on in, the water's fine.)

Very nice! Ditto the above.

A beautiful shot, and the only comment that came to mind immediately when looking at this is the same as mentioned above. Since there is no detail in that right dark area, you should just eliminate it entirely.

I love the pose. I also agree with John's crop, but would also warm up the image. As it is, it seems to have a bluish/greenish cast on my monitor. Thanks for posting.

Wonderful light here and I agree with the crop suggestion.

I've seen his cropped version and it looks great.

I looked at his website. Tell him to get his booty over here!
