Paul Breitkreuz showed me this spot a couple of years ago, just off the Virginia Lakes road near the creek. I made a couple of shots here (see Heart of Autumn at ESS) and would have liked to explore more. However, the weather was changing rapidly for the worst.

You've certainly figured out how to get those golds to pop Preston. Nice work.

The yellows are perfect here Preston, I also like the fg, very nice shot

Nice work Preston. That is some serious color.

I find aspen groves so "busy" that it's usually very difficult to make a good composition, but you've certainly done it here. Great composition!

Excellent, love the color

Preston, I think you did a very good job trying to make some sense out of a bunch of complex elements. I like the comp and the intense yellow is really nice.

Preston,
You must have this composition burned in to your head... this reminds me very, very much of an image you captured and posted from your birthday weekend from Yosemite - I believe from behind the Chapel area?
I love this. But if I had a suggestion it would be to back off the brightness of the leaves dead center. They don't seem overly saturated per se, but they are such a stark difference in terms of luminosity compared to the upper leaves that it begs the question.... Minor, but mentionable.

ps. Was it Paul - or ME that had us pull off the road next to the creek?

Based upon a suggestion from a friend, I cropped the image, and also took Lon's advice to tone down the leaves.
Better, or just different? What say you?

Perfect Preston! I hadn't thought of the crop, but I think it works very well in refining this image. The main yellows are just right now. Great job on the re-work.

a nice intimate aspen scene Preston! I think I prefer the original version.
I am liking the rework. The crop defines the emphasis of the image on the main tree for me and the colors work together better for me. On the original, I feel that upper branch pulling my eye to it, when I want to be looking at the middle leaves. That is me. Others' mileage may vary.
