Another milkyway shot (hope everyone is not getting tired of seeing these!) taken just outside of Coldwater, Kansas. This is one reason why my Dad and I took our 'road trip' at the time we did...so we could catch the new moon and try photographing the milkyway at some new locations. The DarkSky Finder said this would be some dark skies and it was right! We could see the milkyway from inside the city limits of Coldwater, definitely the darkest sky I've been able to shoot under.
This is a 4 shot stack, aligned and combined in Nebulosity and processed in CS3.

very nice, Scott. So many stars and colors. How are you controlling the motion of the ground when stacking and processing?

Scott, I am really enjoying your night shots. Do you see the alien figure outline in the Milkly Way? I saw the alien in my shots last year from Southern Utah.

Scott
Wow what an interesting shot, I have difficulty with the moon let alone the Milkyway.

Thanks everyone.
Rob: I mask the foreground back in from one shot after stacking. I've been experimenting with different ways of doing this, but for this shot, I set the blend mode in PS to 'color dodge' and it worked great without the need to add a layer mask. I had to process out some color shifts in the milkyway doing it this way, but it was easier than trying to mask the tree back in.
Larry: Yeah I love the TWAN website, I have a couple of photos in their guest gallery
Tom: I can't see the alien in the milkyway, but now I'm obsessed with finding it! Where is it? I'm going to spend all day staring at the milkyway now trying to find it!

It most likely is my vivid imagination but once I saw it, I see on most shots like yours of the Milky Way. Look at the darker part of the Milky Way near the top and there is a head form leading to a narrow neck and body with arms extended to the left about midway of the Milky Way.It almost looks like a shadow.
Check out my shot from The San Juan River last October and see if you see it there?

Great shot of yours BTW, what lens were you using for that?
