Photomerge as a Smart Object

I have a pano newbie question that I couldn't Google an answer to. I have 3 RAWs that I want to have Photoshop Photomerge into one image document. The Photomerge automation works pretty well but it won't open the individual RAW files as Smart Objects. Is there a way to get it to do that? Or are there plugins/scripts out there that I would need to use instead?

Thanks for your help.

Mat,
When you use Photomerge, it is truly a merge of all of the pixels from your three images into one layer in Photoshop. If you want to process each image, you'll have to do so with each individual RAW file prior to merging them. That's a bit tricky as you can get mixed results if the color, white balance, etc. don't match from image to image. You can process multiple images simultaneously in Camera RAW (and probably in Lightroom) so you are making the same general adjustments to all three. Of course, you can process each image in PS as well prior to the merge. Once merged, you have one image.

It just allows you the flexibility to re-edit the contents back in ACR then pull the changes back into PS. Once and a while I realize I don't like the way I had one setting or another in ACR, AFTER I've already started working in PS, and it's nice to be able to go back and change things. I assume Photomerge does some perspective correction, which would need a rasterized image.

It's not a major problem, just a feature I will miss.
