Is the 300KB file size also in effect at PhotoPortfolios?

Awesome Jim! Thanks so much. It was a struggle somtime to get the file size down so that is certainly a great feature

Patricia, you can find your membership number on the Preferences screen. Yes, the 250 is just for the personal gallery here on NPN, though if you need more space on PhotoPortfolios let me know and I can raise it.
Preston, just for NPN but it would make sense to apply that to PhotoPortfolios as well. I will make a note to do so.

Great news Jim - the 300kb limit is GREATLY appreciated. Is the size limit still 500kb for the larger version post? Thanks for that, and all the other hard work you and Donna do!!

Jim, thanks for it all - seems to be running smoothly today. Happy about the 300kb size on the smaller version too

Thank you! But now I can't blame the compression for my horrible images!

Donna and Jim,
Good news! Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to continue making NPN one of the best places to hang out online.
The 300kb will be great for most, but as a reminder to all members - if you have your own web hosting there is NO limit to the file size, only the dimensions and that of course stays at 720px. So if you have the ability host your images elsewhere there should be no compression complaints!

Our pleasure!
We have some very cool new ideas and initiatives in the works, the discussion of which will begin in the Nov. edition. Look for my article "The Nature Photographers Network Presents..." which will outline our vision of where we go from here, and all the new possibilities it will offer.

Jim...does the 300k limit also apply to the regional forums?
Posted by Morris McClung on October 30, 2010 at 10:23 AM
Thanks again for all that you do for this outstanding site!
This should make a big difference, and especially on those images that are chock full of details.

Toni asked
Jim...does the 300k limit also apply to the regional forums?
No, it does not. However, we want to set up each regional group with their own IC gallery. This will allow each group to have a forum that is limited to discussion and a separate photo critique forum, complete with thumbnail page. We plan on moving that forward this month.
Another on the long list of things that make me proud to be here.
Keep up the good work!

New RG IC Galleries!
The California and Pacific NW now have their own IC galleries, which can be accessed via the main drop-down menu at the top of the page. We expect all of the regional groups will be set up the same soon.

I hope the regional group IC galleries will be included in the all photos link.

Wonderful new additions to the already fantastic NPN site. Thanks so much for all the hard work and dedication you & Donna bring to NPN. I'm proud to be a long time member of your site.

Jim, Would it be possible to provide a feature in the regional galleries which will also place the same post in the main gallery ? For example if I post a photo in MWNP can we make it appear (using check box options) in Flora/ESS/....etc galleries automatically ?
Posted by Jim Erhardt on November 2, 2010 at 9:15 AM
Ram,
As it is currently set up, when a photo is posted in a Regional IC gallery it also appears in the All Photos Gallery, giving it exposure over the entire NPN website. These photos also appear in your Personal Gallery.
I would have to research to see if there would be any issues with doing this.
In my opinion, the current set up works just fine. Why add complexity when it's not really required?
Just my 0.0002.

One thing that stands out is the menu at the homepage. The padding seems to be a bit too much thus causing the log-in menu to wrap. This screen shot is on a Mac using Firefox.
Sorry - every once in a while I do log-out. I will try to be better at that.

How many others are seeing what David is above?
This is absolutely the first time I've seen or heard about this...

Jim - I will also say that this (a) occurs with FireFox on both Macs that I use, (b) its been that way for a long time, and (c) it does not seem to occur in Safari on the MacBook Air that I am using right now. I can test other browsers when I get home tonight.
Edit -
David, I made a change - let me know if the wrapping is still occuring.

Looks good, Jim.
Screenshot here is from FireFox. Safari still looks fine, too.

Excellent - thanks David!

This happens when I use CMD+ (ALT+ in Windows) to scale up the fonts within Firefox. It also makes a mess of the menus in the header. I like large fonts so I've been viewing NPN this way (CMD+ times three) for so long I don't notice it anymore.
Posted by David Rogers on November 3, 2010 at 9:26 AM
Mark - I do that, too. But the issue I saw occurred with a zeroed zoom setting (CMD - 0) on the Mac when using Firexox. And, with a properly designed website, all elements --should-- scale and there should be no wrapping.
As it stands now I can zoom in or out in Firefox and the menu does not wrap at all.
Jim - that's not to say NPN is poorly designed - ya'll have done good.

Jim - not sure if this is the proper place to post this. On the PhotoPortfolios site I just logged-on and used the menu option to change my password. The site let me know that the change was successful. However, after logging out, my new password would not work. My old password does. I tried it again, with the same successful change notice, and with the same new password not working.
Discussion
36 replies1. Maximum file size for the standard 720 pixel photo is now 300kb
2. On the Post A Photo screen, we have added a few "What is this?" links to clarify the anonymous gallery and personal gallery options
3. You may now have up to 250 photos in your Personal Gallery
4. We have added a link to the Posting Guidelines in the green navigation bar near the top of the page
If anyone has any questions or experiences any difficulty in logging in, please let us know!
