Backlit Trees
Sierra National Forest
Shot it on the way in to Yosemite, know what kind of trees these are?

Steve,

Is this on 41 or 140? Looks like the same layout as coming down the steep grade from Mariposa just before hitting Bryceburg. Love the back lighting here. The background shadows are a little purple to my eye, but not a big deal.

I want to say these are Digger Pine, but not 100% sure. I'm betting Preston will know. He knows everything.

I really like the backlight, here, Steve; the trees are simply glowing. I agree with Lon about the purple cast in the BG, but it doesn't really bother me, either.

Yes, these are Digger Pine. They grow in the oak-chapparal belt of CA between about sea level and 4,000 feet, except in the far south, and far eastern counties.

Lon, I am glad I don't know everything. Life would be pretty dull if there was nothing left to learn. I am still BDOF #1

The purple I've been getting lately must be coming from the saturation punch I'm adding after all the contrast adjustments. Or maybe when adding warmth and tint when processing the RAW file? Vibrance, something to watch.

Lon, you're right, off the Mariposa road.

Preston, thanks for the ID.

Steve,
I often find back lighten tough to deal with. You've done it masterfully here. Best Regards.

Steve,

I like the backlit trees with the dark background. Very cool glow to them. You might consider cloning the tops of the bushes on the bottom edge. The image works quite well.

I like this photo! The diagonals, layers and back lighting really make it appealing.

Just a question - any reason this was not posted in the new CANP IC gallery?

Jim,

Steve's image was posted before the CANP IC gallery was active, I believe.

Ah, I see that now - thanks!

Nice one, the lighting really compliments the color of those trees nicely.

Thanks guys.

Jim, I think we're all a little slow on the migration over the next place.
