Male Orange Tip
This is a Male Orange Tip butterfly.

I took it hand held at arms length from a footpath using my live view to compose the image and rocking in and out until focus was right, well, the ground was boggy and I didn't want to get wet

Sony A350
Tamron 90mm macro
1/640th second
f8
ISO 400
Manual focus
+0.3 stop exposure compensation
Centre-weighted metering
Almost full frame, just a little digital zoom evenly on all sides.

A very pretty image

This really is very beautiful Geoffrey - the outer wings have a sort of embosssed look to them - and it's a fabulous setting. :toast:

Background a bit to busy for my taste but the light on the flower and orange tip is just stunning. So is the sharpness. Beautiful!!

Beautiful detail on the Orange Tip Geoff. How did you manage to get such a pretty flower (is it plastic)

I don't mind the BG at all. Plain would be pefection but I think it sets the butterfly off quite well.

Yes, that's very nice Geoff. You certainly wouldn't want any more definition in the background, but it's not too bad as it is and gives a nice sense of the rich colours in the surrounding grassland.

Great detail on both the butterfly and flower.
