OT - Shanghai and Hong Kong
I was in Asia shooting for 3.5 weeks last month. I am starting to get through the images and here are the links to Shanghai and Hong Kong . This year (like my summer trips) I was without 4x5. It was another pure digital trip with a Canon S90 and Canon 5Dm2 in tow. While I definitely missed not having the 4x5 around my back was very thankful for this alternative.

Bali pics are next on my processing list.

Man, Richie, this is urban art at it's highest level! What an eye for comps, and which shots work best as B&W or color, or even a touch of HDR. Are you selling your work in galleries? :toast: :toast: :toast:

Stunning stuff, the b&w are sweet, one of these for the print swap this year I think Richie.

You really hit a jackpot over there! :toast:

Truly outstanding and cohesive series. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to your take on Bali.

Wow! Excellent series Richie! I am impressed with the basket shots taken with the S90, esp. the first one. Is that Jin Mao shot in Hong kong showing smog?

Man, they broke the mold when they made you. Those photos are extraordinary!

I can't think of a superlative that's "super" enough. Damn, I wish I'd shot these!

I am in awe, Richie! Absolutely phenomenal images. I imagine with a bit of narrative, most of these could wind up in a travel magazine. Excellent work!

Thanks for sharing your adventure with this fantastic set of images. All executed in a way that captures the essence of the places.

Thanks for all of the compliments. They mean A LOT coming from the talented and passionate bunch of people that I know here. Now that I amgrounded for awhile hopefully I can work on getting a better site up (isn't that the mantra of all fine art photographers unless you are Jack and Jesse  )

@Pam - Shanghai is indeed polutted (air polution that is). In the case of the picture we had a weather front moving through so those are in fact 'real' clouds. Shanghai was on the surface immaculate which is alot different than what my cousin tells me it was like just 10 years ago. ALL BUILDINGS with exception to the Pearl Television tower were built within the past 15 years with most even more recent than that. They are building like crazy. Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore felt like very wealthy places.

As for the Canon S90. Back in May when Jim C, Scott B and I were in Bisti. Scott old me he was thinking of getting a small camera to have available to easily take pictures with while hiking. I thought he was talking about a G10/11 but he was thinking smaller than that. The S90 has a great fast lens, 10MP RAW images and when you are careful when shooting (handheld) you can create images that easily can go to 23" on the long side.

This is some of the finest urban Asian photography that I've ever seen. You have a gifted eye for street composition, Rich. Colors are rich and vibrant, and the b&w shots were well chosen and nearly perfect.
Your work here deserves a much wider audience!. I for one would buy a book with images like these!

Really nice stuff! As everyone else has said, your eye was first-rate in these sets. I spent a little time in Beijing in 1995, and I can scarcely begin to imagine how much it must have changed in 15 years.

Outstanding and creative photography! By the way spiedies are not spiedies without Roma Italian bread.

Some really beautiful work Richard! Could fit easily in National Geographic Magazine. Reminds me of that kind of work. Great job.
